Activities

  •  Advocate and lobby with government to recognize rainwater as source of drinking water to influence national policy;
  • Collaborate with local government bodies for good governance and to increase coordination and linkage;  
  • Provide long term access to safe water for vulnerable communities primarily in 'Type 3 areas’, where people have no access to surface water, have no alternative sources such as borehole or spring potential, and/or suffer from restrictions due to poor water quality; 
  • RHCC focuses on integrated approach for promoting health and sanitation service along with rainwater harvesting through WASH approach, targeting to bring sustainable changes in hygiene behavior of the individuals and improve environmental sanitation practices; 
  • Strengthening and enhancing the capacity and expertise of RHCC staff and IMOs at organizational and sector level along with building capacities of communities at project level by organizing trainings, exposure visits and workshops to enhance their knowledge; 
  • Facilitate RAIN’s network in Nepal which helps to create a common understanding among RHCC’s partners by sharing reviews, lessons learnt, problems and limitations faced during project cycle;
  • RHCC has initiated the Research and Development (R&D) approach to demonstrate multiple use of harvested water through integrating micro-irrigation for income generation and improved livelihood;  
  • Showcase cost effective and best practices of rainwater harvesting technology in Nepal; 
  • Promoting and marketing rainwater harvesting technology through trainings and awareness generation at local and national level;
  • RHCC creates alliances and partnerships with national and international organizations/institutions to expand programme of rainwater harvesting; 
  • Introduce micro financing in rainwater harvesting programme to provide service to deprived families and reduce dependency on subsidies;  
  • Conduct periodic monitoring and evaluation of rainwater harvesting project activities which helps to maintain good rapport between community, implementing partners and funding agency, and also ensures transparency and accountability required for project sustainability;
  • Water quality testing for the rainwater harvesting system to ensure acceptable water quality which is essential for health and well being of harvested water users and      
  • Documenting and maintaining database of the rainwater harvesting systems funded by RAIN Foundation and serves as an information pool.
